Dr. Lela A. Bridges
Students, Parents, the District 152 School Community, and the Worldwide Community, Greetings from the Board of Education and Staff of Harvey Public Schools. We hope that your summer break has been restful, yet rewarding. We are pleased that we were able to offer the following extended year programs to all our students: Summer Recreation, Financial Fitness for Life, Road to College Academy, Thornton Township/District 152 Summer Enrichment, Band Clinic, Karate, PEP-Carol E. White Fitness for Life. Homeless-McKinney-Ventro. We hope that these experiences; especially in reading and math, will continue to help our students work toward academic excellence. All students are required to demonstrate proficiency in the areas of Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Physical Development, Health, and Fine Arts before advancing to the next grade. We have chosen Comprehensive Reform Models to assist our district in mapping and aligning our curriculum goals with the Illinois Learning Standards. District 152 continues to receive Reading First for all K-3 students. We have also received the Carol E. White grant with a foci on physical fitness, healthy bodies, diet and nutrition. We have selected grades three through eight as our benchmarks for the Illinois Standards. It is critical that students who are not performing at grade level participate in our after-school tutorial program, extended year [summer school] and any other activities offered by the District. More importantly, as the parent, it is imperative that you work with us in order to ensure maximum participation from your child. We need you! Our theme this year is "Bubbling With Success" Special emphasis will be placed on math, standards, curriculum mapping and improvement of test scores. District 152 will offer many exciting and productive programs supported by our Foundation and our growing list of partners and supporters. We hope you will attend many of our planned activities which include: Open House, Family Reading and Math Nights, Parent-Teacher Conference and other community education events. You will have several opportunities to participate in all of these initiatives...Welcome Aboard! Have a productive and successful school year. Sincerely, Lela A. Bridges, Ed.D. |
