Summer Break Suggestions:
- Read daily - Students should visit the library to borrow books if they need to. Reading should be done at or about the same time each day. A dictionary should be on hand so that students may look up unknown words, this helps build vocabulary. Also, students can read signs, billboards, and food labels.
- Journal Writing - Have students write information about their favorite parts, characters, or events from the books they read. This activity connects the reading to writing and gives the students their own mental pictures of what they have read. If the student has access to a computer they might want to keep a digital journal.
- Math Activities - Students should practice math facts daily (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). They can also play math games to build or refresh their skills.
- Family Time - Use free time or vacation time to build memory skills by playing word games and clearly explain the rules to the games.
- Computers/Technology - Have students use computers/technology to learn, review, and develop age and/or grade appropriate skills needed for them to succeed.
- Just have fun learning and we'll see you in the fall!
