Student Assignments

Possible  activities for this unit are as follows,
with the other members of your group-

1.  Create a K-W-L chart.  Brainstorm everything you know and would like to know about the weather.  Add to the chart as you keep track of the things you learn as you work on this unit.

2. Use the Internet web page, textbooks, library books, encyclopedias, television weather reports, newspapers, CD-ROM encyclopedia, and any other resources to provide information for the various activities.

3. Create the necessary weather instruments needed to forecast weather.  See your teacher for any supplies that you cannot locate at home.

4. Gather and organize weather data using charts, graphs, and/or spreadsheets.

5. Analyze and compare weather reports in the newspapers and various television stations to determine which is consistently the most accurate.

6. Create a multimedia presentation on one type of weather event (tornado, blizzard, hurricane, snow, rain, hail, etc.)

7. Create a crossword puzzle, Jeopardy game, flip book, or other tool to demonstrate your knowledge of weather vocabulary.

8. Communicate with an expert or weather buddies about weather topics or forecasts.

9. Plan and broadcast a schoolwide weather forecast.

10. Illustrate a piece of weather folklore or weather fun for the classroom newspaper weather section.

3. Compare and contrast the kinds of weather associated with tornadoes, hurricanes, thunderstorms, and blizzards and the effects on man and landforms.

4. Explain what humidity is and how it is measured.

5. Explain how meteorologists use observable weather conditions to predict the weather.

6. Create and use weather instruments to organize, gather, record, and utilize data to create and broadcast weather forecasts.
