Superintendent Dr. Lawrence recently attended the Illinois Association of School Boards South Cook Division Meeting! The session was focused on informative and engaging talks around equity in our schools and communities. We’re excited to have these conversations happening to move our school districts forward.

Third and fourth graders at Maya Angelou Elementary School were introduced to the chapter book reader "Peter Parkerzak" written by Black author Angel Tate. Following their reading discussion sessions, she even visited the school in February! This event was a wonderful learning experience for the students who had the opportunity to participate in real-time story building and a question and answer session with the author.

As a reminder, there is no school for students on Thursday, March 21 for Parent Teacher Conferences, and there is no school for students on Friday, March 22 for a Staff Institute Day. Enjoy the extended weekend!

Congratulations to the Angelou boys basketball team - they are once again champions! The team includes students from grades three through five and have been undefeated since 2022. A huge shout out goes to the team coaches Ms. Emma Beans and Mr. Claude Davis!

Superintendent Dr. Lawrence is proud to partner with State Representative, and Harvey alum, Will Davis to advocate for all of South Suburban Cook County! It takes a village to raise our students and a concerted effort bringing together home, school and the community.

Last week was our District Math Bowl and there was some fierce competition. Congratulations to the dedicated math coaches and each of the competitors! Last month, the Harvey Educational Foundation held their Annual Gala! This special event celebrates individuals who have supported the school district and the Harvey community while raising funds for educational grants awarded to Harvey School District 152 educators. Each year, honoree nominations are requested from staff members and the selections are made by the Foundation board members. Last week, Harvey School District 152 hosted the annual district-wide Black History Month event honoring the past and inspiring the future. We’re incredibly proud of the wonderful student performances! We are grateful for all of the community members who attended. A huge thank you to all of the students, staff and families for organizing an incredible event and sharing your talents!

Join us tonight, Feb. 22, for our District-wide Celebrate Black History All Day, Every Day event! We look forward to celebrating Black History through student and staff presentations at Brooks Middle School at 6 p.m. All community members are welcome to attend!
