Thanksgiving celebrations made learning festive at Maya Angelou Elementary! Students learned about the history of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade by reading “Balloons over Broadway” by Melissa Sweet. Students made their own balloons, floats and paraded through the school. What an exciting way to send off before Thanksgiving break!

On September 23, 2022, while attending the National Education Association Board of Directors meeting in Washington, Ms. Moore experienced a once in a lifetime opportunity. The President of the Unitied States visited the National Education Association headquarters and Ms. Moore was selected to stand on stage with the President! Not only did Ms. Moore stand with the President, but she got to shake his hand. Advocating for the schools our students deserve has always been a top priority for Ms. Moore. She also got to speak with members of congress about extending the free lunch program for all students across the US and she advocated for more funding for our public schools.

Maya Angelou School Receives $5,000 Donation from New Burlington Store Burlington Stores, a major off-price retailer offering WOW deals on customers’ favorite brands for the entire family and home, through its partnership with the national non-profit organization, AdoptAClassroom.org, has donated $5,000 towards school supplies to Harvey School District 152's Angelou School in celebration of its new store now open in Homewood at 18500 S. Halsted St. A representative from AdoptAClassroom.org contacted school administrators and helped to secure the donation for Maya Angelou, which will provide about $300 in new supplies for each teacher’s classroom.
