This is a special community alert regarding District and student safety.

Dear Parents and Guardians, I want to inform you about a soft lockdown that was implemented at our school today as a precautionary measure after receiving a potential threat. Our priority was, as always, to ensure the safety of all students and staff. During the soft lockdown, all students remained in their classrooms, instruction continued as usual, and no one was allowed to leave or move around the building until we were confident that the situation was resolved. I am pleased to inform you that, after a thorough investigation by the school administration and local law enforcement, we have identified the source of the threat. It was determined that the threat, while concerning, was not credible and there is no danger to our school community. The individual responsible has been identified, and appropriate actions are being taken to ensure that this situation is addressed following school and district policies. We want to thank you for your understanding and support during this situation. While we never take threats lightly, we are grateful that this was resolved quickly and safely. Last month, Harvey Educational Foundation hosted their 27th Annual Golf Outing! The event took place at Glenwoodie Golf Club in Glenwood with more than 106 participants. Along with their annual gala, this event raises funds for teacher mini grants. Thank you to the Foundation for their continued support of our students and staff!

Mark your calendars! The first day of school of the 2024-25 school year in Harvey School District 152 is Monday, August 19. We can’t wait to see our students and staff back in the buildings!

Beginning next month, registration for new and returning Pre-K-8th grade students will take place on the following dates and times at Brooks Middle School (14748 Wallace St. Harvey, Ill.). - Tuesday, Aug. 6: 1-7 p.m. - Wednesday, Aug. 7: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. - Thursday, Aug. 8: 1-7 p.m - Saturday, Aug.10: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

As a reminder, Harvey School District 152 buildings will be closed July 4 and 5 in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

Congratulations to another member of the Harvey 152 family who is celebrating an educational achievement, Tre’Von M. Wilson! Last month, he graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a Master of Business Management degree with a focus in Business Data Management and Communication. Mr. Wilson is a former student of Bryant Elementary School, Brooks Middle School and graduated from Thornton Township High School’s International Baccalaureate program. Congratulations to District 152 alum, Tanganika D. Watts! She recently graduated from DePaul University with a Masters Degree in Special Education! Ms. Watts attended Maya Angelou Elementary School, Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School, and Thornton Township High School. This former past President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Lambda Chapter and Student Government Association Illinois Board of Higher Education Representative looks to improve the overall trajectory for Black students, minorities, recent immigrants and underprivileged students in academics.
