Last week, Harvey School District hosted a Grandparents and Parent Volunteer Celebration! Our schools depend on the amazing community members who volunteer to ensure success at various events and programs. Grandparents and parents, thank you for all that you do to support our schools!
Also, thank you to our board members Mr. Whittington, Mrs. Gardner, Ms. Hawkins for attending!

Since 2016, the Joliet Area/South Suburban Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (JASSAC) has partnered with Blessings in a Backpack to provide snack bags to Harvey School District 152 students. This year, Shure Music Company purchased 3,000 bags and donated them back to Blessings in a Backpack. In April, JASSAC packed the bags and delivered them to the district.
More than 3,000 students from the district were thrilled to be recipients of Blessings in a Backpack this spring, thanks to JASSAC! Additionally, 600 bags are distributed to District 152 students each month.
We greatly appreciate the kindness shown by members of the Joliet Area/South Suburban Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for providing these essentials for our students. And many thanks to Ms. Casey Nesbit, current school board member, who is also a member of JASSAC.

Happy Early Mother’s Day! Holmes Elementary School hosted "Donuts with Mom" – a mother and son breakfast! The mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures in our students’ lives were invited to eat breakfast with their child, complete a small craft, and take a photo to remember the special occasion!

Happy School Nurse Day! We’re incredibly grateful for our health services teams and their work to create a safe and healthy learning environment. Thank you for your dedication to our students and staff!

Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 10, is a School Improvement Day. Students will be released for an early dismissal at 12:30 p.m.

As part of a new way to highlight the amazing people who make Harvey Schools 152 so special, we will be highlighting a new feature called Someone You Should Know. These wonderful members of our community will be featured at board meetings, given a certificate, and celebrated on our social media channels and website.
For April 2023, we were honored to celebrate full time substitute teacher Quentin Wright. Mr. Wright was recently recognized by his Alma Mater Grand Canyon University College of Education as a Teacher of the Year.
In addition to being a celebrated member of the Harvey 152 family, Mr. Wright is also a celebrated Professional DJ, Writer and Poet. Students love being able to interact with Mr. Wright and his passion for music, writing, and education.
The recognition from his alma mater is absolutely something to be proud of and we are thrilled to be able join in the celebration by naming him Someone You Should Know!

It is Staff Appreciation Week! Each and every day, our teachers empower our students to learn new skills and take on new challenges. We appreciate all that our staff members do to support our students on their educational journey. Comment below with a note for our teachers and staff!

As a part of the Step Up program which bridges the gap between Pre-K and Kindergarten, the Riley Pre-K students came to visit Holmes Elementary School. During their visit Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Mesarina read them a story, made sequence hats, and met the current Kindergartners! They also received a special visit from the Holmes Blue Jay!

Many thanks to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (Phi Epsilon Omega Chapter) for donating a Pink Dogwood tree to Holmes Elementary School! The Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority held a tree planting ceremony with students and staff on April 28. When fully grown the Pink Dogwood will be between 15-20 feet tall and bloom pink flowers every spring.

Attendance is a crucial part of a student’s success in school. We’re proud of the 106 students at Holmes Elementary School that did not miss a day of school in April, which is the highest number of students with perfect attendance for a month this school year. The students were rewarded with a pizza party! It’s cool to be in school!

Congratulations to all of our students who participated in last week's District STEM Fair! Our students did an incredible job preparing their projects and showcasing their work with our community.
