Harvey Public School District 152
Department of Special Services
"Ensuring High Levels of Learning for All"
The Mission of Harvey School District 152 Office of Special Services as it strives toward excellence, is to provide students with disabilities a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE), and develop their roles as responsible citizens in our Global Society.
It is an honor to be appointed as the HSD 152 Director of Special Services. I am committed to fulfilling the mission of our office, which is to provide students with disabilities a free appropriate public education in their least restrictive environment in order to develop their roles in becoming responsible citizens in a Global Society.
The Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA) require that students who are eligible for special education and related services, be provided a free appropriate public education (FAPE). FAPE means that students who are identified with disabilities will be educated to the maximum extent appropriate, in their least restrictive environment, along with their non-disabled peers. This includes regular education, special education, and alternative placements with the use of additional supports and services if necessary.
Every year, students identified with a disability must have an Annual Review Conference. The purpose of this conference is to review the special education programming and placement options.
The meeting must include the following participants
a general education teacher
a special education administrator
a special education teacher
any additional staff, knowledgeable about the student and/or the meaning of the evaluation data, and the placement options
The student’s placement can be at their home school or as close as possible to the school that he or she would attend without a disability.
