While students head home early, our teachers dive into professional learning, exploring new strategies and technologies to boost student success. Behind the scenes, our coordinators play a vital role. Last week, Mrs. Simcha Dixon (Math) and Ms. Christina Montgomery (Literacy) partnered with teachers to review i-Ready scores, set growth goals, and design strategies for achievement.

So next time there’s an early dismissal, remember: while students are away, teachers are working hard to pave the way for success. Today, we wrapped up our Grandparent celebrations as Whittier School welcomed their “Grands” to an Emerald and Gold Affair. Grandparents and students joined in on some line dances, and students showed off their latest moves. Principal Ms. Manuel and the Whittier staff thank Board of Education members Mr. Joseph Whittington and Mrs. Janet Rogers for joining in on the fun. Parents were excited to be part of such a special event. Wow, our grandparents ROCK!

Today, Brooks Middle School was filled with excitement during our Grandparent celebration. Students and their grandparents enjoyed a continental brunch and listened to a presentation from Social Worker Ms. Buchanan. We were honored to welcome the City of Harvey, Mayor Chris Clark, and State Representative Will Davis, both of whom are proud Brooks alumni. Board President Janet Rogers, board member Teresa Cameron, and District 152 administrators also joined with Brooks Principal Dr. Hester and her fantastic staff, who put this program together. Harvey 152's Grandparents Week continues to highlight the vital role our grandparents play in our community.

Angelou School recently welcomed Mr. Ben Averyheart, a former educator and world-renowned football, track and field coach, for a discussion with 5th-grade students. Mr. Averyheart is currently touring to promote his new book, "Thanks Coach," which highlights over 50 years of sports excellence and the many students he has mentored, including former Harvey Colts players who have become NFL greats and Olympic athletes. He continues to train students through the Warriors Track and Field program. We congratulate Mr. Averyheart on his new book and thank him for his ongoing mentorship.
